Perfection Does Not Exist is a one-of-a-kind modern art painting by artist Janet Antepara.
"Perfection Does Not Exist" is inspired by an abstract daydream about expecting perfection in an imperfect world. Through rich symbolism, I convey the feelings of disappointment, martyrdom, and loneliness that accompany the futile pursuit of perfection. The title is written in chalk, reminiscent of writing lines on a chalkboard as punishment in elementary school. The painting features the shadow of a person with a silver halo, melting into a whirl of blue darkness. They stand beneath what was once a perfect tree, in front of a once-perfect picnic setup with a red tablecloth, now violently lifted away into the heavens where it meets a caged moon, shrouded in darkness. The cages flying between the trapped moonlight and the martyred shadow symbolize negativity and impossibilities. The overarching message is clear: perfection is an illusion; neither people nor things can ever be truly perfect.
