"Bottoms Up" is a unique modern art painting by Janet Antepara. This painting explores the inner turmoil experienced by someone affected by loved ones struggling with alcoholism. Within the piece, the words "rage" and "hurt" are inscribed inside a breast that appears to be crying into a martini glass, symbolizing deep emotional pain. Impressions of beer cans fade in and out across the canvas, symbolizing the cyclical nature of drinking. Downward-pointing arrows lead to the words "NO” written several times and styled to resemble lines of ants, marching against the arrows in a combative and resilient manner. Antagonistic words are subtly written in white and crossed out, giving the impression of silenced voices. At the bottom of the canvas, two handprints rest in a pool of red, one normal and one smudged, adding a personal and haunting final touch.
